Your first week with a new kitten
A calm room, the right food and a first vet visit. Here's how to help your kitten settle in.
General information only. If you're worried about your pet, call us.
Set up a safe room
A small, quiet room helps your kitten feel secure. Put the litter box, food, water and a covered bed on different sides of the room.
Let them explore the rest of the house slowly, one room at a time, over a few days.
Feeding in the first week
Keep feeding whatever the shelter or breeder used. Sudden changes can upset small tummies.
If you want to switch, mix in the new food gradually over 7–10 days.
The first vet visit
We check weight, eyes, ears, heart and teeth, look for parasites and start a vaccine plan. It's also a good moment to ask about microchipping and spaying.
When to call us
Call if your kitten stops eating for more than 12 hours, has diarrhea for more than a day, or seems very sleepy.
Due a check-up?
Most pets need one every year. It takes about 30 minutes.
